A tea day by taxi “CHAGUSABA farming method and the Tea Museum, Shizuoka”

The tour is planned and organized by Shizuoka Branch, Nokyo Tourist Corporation.
The CHAGUSABA farming method is an example of circular agriculture traditional to Shizuoka, which helps maintain the environment and biodiversity, CHAGUSABA (茶草場) refers to the grassland around tea fields. Cut pampas or bamboo grasses are used as organic compost for tea fields. It was recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the United Nations in 2013.

■Tour date: Thursday, Friday or Saturday between April 1 and May 31, 2023.
■Tour price: JPY45,000 for 1 universal taxi, up to 4 people.
¥11,250 per person for 1 group/4 people, ¥15,000 per person for 1 group/3 people, ¥22,500 per person for 1 group/2 people, ¥45,000 for 1 group/1 person
In the case that a wheelchair user participates, the capacity is 3 people.
In the case of requesting a paid English interpreter, the capacity is 3 people.
Included in tour price: taxi fee of the entire tour and guide fee of the Higashiyama area.
Not included in tour price: entry fee of the museum and lunch fee.
Arrangement of an English interpreter is also available. Please inquire for the fee.
■Application fee: JPY2,000 (it will be deducted from the tour fee)
■Meal: not included
■Minimum number of participants: 1 person
■Reservation deadline: 1 week before the desired date of tour
■Tour conductor: A tour conductor will not accompany you.
■Taxi used for the tour: Kakegawa taxi
■Note:
Because you will be visiting the tea fields, please come in clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting dirty.
In the case that a wheelchair user or a person with visual impairment is participating; the person accompanying them must support them during the tour. The taxi driver can only provide assistance when getting in and out of the taxi.
■Accessibility information
There is an elevator on the Shinkansen platform of JR Kakegawa Station. and at the Tea Museum. There is an accessible toilet at JR Kakegawa Station, Kapposhi terrace and the Tea Museum.
Place and Time of departure: Taxi stand at the south exit of JR. Kakegawa Station at 10:30 am
Please be waiting there by 10:30 am.
■Itinerary:
10:30 Depart from JR. Kakegawa Station
11:00〜12:30 Tour of Higashiyama area in Kakegawa City; visit to the tea fields, viewing Chagusaba, the tea factory and visiting the view point of Mt. Awagatake with Chamonji; Higashiyama ippukudokoro (tea tasting) and Awagatake GIAHS Chagusaba Terrace (Mt. Fuji may be seen during the winter)
Driving through the tea fields on the Makinohara Plateau.
*The factory does not operate at certain times of the year.
13:00〜15:00 The Tea Museum, Shizuoka (free time: observing, shopping and eating)
15:30 Arrive at the south exit of JR. Kakegawa Station
*Depending on the weather and traffic conditions some parts of the schedule and times may change.
*Depending on the date of tour the taxi in the photo may no be arranged.
*Persons presiding in Japan can participate in the tour 全国旅行支援 全国旅行割 (Domestic travel discount program) for Oct. 11 to the end of Dec. 2022 (planned). Please inquire for details. When the limit of participation of program is reached, the program will be closed.

*The bundles of grasses which shaped a delta cone are called “kapposhi”. Kapposhi can be seen in winter only, but in some years the tea producer cannot make it.
*When taxi fares are revised, the tour price may be increased. In that case, it will be informed on this page.
