Green tea

Japan

Higecha (Japan)

Tea is classified into six categories: green tea, white tea, yellow tea, blue tea (Oolong tea), black tea, and dark tea. This Site introduces various teas that CHAMART has drunk.

Green tea
Unfermented tea
Production area: Yamazoe Village and Tsukigase of Nara City, Nara Prefecture
Flavor: Freshand mild flavor with little bitterness
Hige (ひげ) means ‘whisker’ in Japanese. The shape and color of higecha are yellowish green long and thin tea stems and crushed dark green tea leaves. The thin long stem looks like a whisker.
The tea doesn’t have a strong umami flavor, but it has a mild taste without bitterness. It is smooth, and easy to drink.
Higecha is the crushed tea leaves and stems that are generated during the sencha-making process, and these are usually unsellable. Thus, the price of Higecha is very reasonable in comparison with sencha.
Sencha is steamed green tea.
